Finishes and Finds

Last Saturday I boxed up and mailed out some of my finishes to my children. There were other treats in the boxes so I kept thinking this is Christmas in July.
Here are some of the finishes:
Tea Towels and burp cloths

My vintage Bambi Quilt

Place mats, pillowcases, and a knitted scarf from yarn I bought in Seattle

Then I went off the Kent Island thrift stores:

A lot of nice jars, tea bag holders, and some Wilton Armetale
Needlepoint pillow, Mary Kay spa kit, and a cross stitch kit

All in all a very satisfying day!

Seattle

I loved my short trip to the Northwest. I did lots of tourist things including two trips to Pike's Market.
Of course there were the visits to the local quilt and yarn shops.
Some of my purchases:

We had all day Sunday to explore. We took the ferry out to Bainbridge Island.
Since it was noon when we docked, and walked up the hill to the tow, we decided to have lunch which turned out to be another breakfast. Let me recommend the Silver Streamlined Diner. I had the apple jack cheese omelet.
AJ ate the diner's version of eggs Benedict--biscuit instead of muffin and sausage instead of sauce.

After all the food, we went shopping - well I did. First stop was McKenna Ryan's showroom. Don't you love the purple door!
My purchase:
On the ferry back to Seattle, we saw Mt. Rainer.
As we were walking back to the hotel, I took a picture of this dog waiting patiently for its owner.

Before I went to Seattle

Before I left for the Northwest, I had some finishes. Here is a baby book, another burp cloth, and a self binding flannel receiving blanket that baby gator loves.I watched a you tube video by Missouri Quilting.
I managed to finish some Farmer's Wife quilt blocks. Here is one.

I finished knitting the pink baby hat for Mary Beth's friend. I crochet a flower for some embellishment.
I worked a little on my new BOM - why did I sign up for this???

I feed my male ducks that visited me.

And answered the door for Mrs. and Mr. Duck. They were hungry.

My Car Project

I started this project the last time I was in Texas. Since then, I only work on it in the car. Five weeks later - here is what I have finished:
It is a vintage Bambi baby quilt. It does have some issues such as the binding will need some repair. I have been careful to not allow the embroidery thread show through on the back.

Memorial Day Weekend

It was a long, weary weekend. I mowed the grass, did some shrub trimming, and general outdoor housekeeping. I managed to slip out to the pier occasionally to relax and read.
Sunday, AJ and I went to Delaware to look at some houses, eat at Jimmy's (soft shell crabs), shop at the outlets, and stop in Mare's Bears quilt shop. The traffic at the beach was horrendous and the crowd in the stores drove me nuts!
The quilt shop had a 25% off everything in the store sale. I was very good and only picked up some fabric - three landscape fat quarters, a cloth book for Barrett, and 2yds of crab fabric.
I did make the pillowcases Mary Beth requested. They are for a friend who is getting married.
And, I made the Texas flag pillowcase for Brice. Good thing I am experienced. The directions in the kit were a little skimpy.

Back from Texas

I have been back for two weeks! First time I have an opportunity for an update. It was really great to have both my daughters at Barrett's christening.

The service included Brice's first Holy Communion, so it was extra special. The church is tiny - tucked away in Hamilton, TX.

I had a fantastic amount of time with both my grandsons. I miss them so much. (note the quilt on the back of the sofa, circa 2003). Here they are waiting to take me to the airport. We were so sad, especially me.
Of course, what is a trip to Texas with a stop at the quilt shop! I had a living social deal for Cabbage Rose in Fort Worth. The local quilt shop in Stevenville has a 30% sale and of course the clearance table.

And when I got home, Mr. and Mrs. Duck were waiting for me!
